Govt. of India in the year, 2007 planned to upgrade 500 Govt. ITIs into the Centers of Excellence. Another 1396 Govt. ITIs were also taken up for the upgradation through the Public Private Partnership(PPP)mode.
One of the major Vocational Training Institutional Infrastructure in India is Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). In total approximately 5500 including Govt. and private ITIs train about 7.5 lac students in about 110 trades. The capacity is very low as compared to the demand. The Govt. ITIs are also deficient in training systems, infrastructure, instructors, equipments, machinery, weak linkage with the industry etc. These deficiencies create a mismatch between the trained man power to be produced by the ITIs and the requirement of the industry. To overcome these deficiencies Govt. of India in the year, 2007 planned to upgrade 500 Govt. ITIs into the Centers of Excellence. Another 1396 Govt. ITIs were also taken up for the upgradation through the Public Private Partnership(PPP)mode. The objective was to involve industry to manage and upgrade the ITIs as per requirements of the industry and employers. This was a very positive step from Govt. and most to the ITIs have thus been earmarked for upgradation and brought under this programme. SARANGARH ITI Raigarh has also been brought under this scheme for which Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. company came forward to adopt this ITI under PPP mode.
